January is a month filled with eager anticipation of what lies in the year ahead! We just got done transitioning from holiday’s to a brand new year. This month we are busy building an addition onto the preschool. What better way to start the new year? Meanwhile, still continuing on with the day to day routine of all aged kids. We always look forward to the weeks ahead, months ahead, and years ahead here at Discoveries Preschool.
Discoveries Preschool 15th annual Preschool Graduation Party!
Another year with our graduating preschoolers. More than half of these kids have been with us since they were in our infant program. Days like this mark a very memorable moment in the life of our preschoolers. We couldn’t be more proud!
Horse day at Discoveries Preschool
❤️Discoveries Preschool has many Animals visit our center as it’s so wonderful and educational for kids to learn and take care of all living beings❤️
Animal week here at Discoveries Preschool! We all pitched in and brought our special furry friends to Discoveries Preschool. From guinea pigs, chickens, turtles, reptiles and of course beautiful horses. The children were in absolute awe! Often times, like adults, children find comfort in our furry friends and we find this to be very important and fun.
It brings a change of pace to the day and a bit more excitement to the already exciting environment of our preschool. This week was a very special week and we’d like to share this short video clip of what one of the days entailed.
Winter Musings!
It’s been a long cold and wet winter. Winter break was almost a month long. The Mustangs had many field trips and fun in December and January. The whole school had a special magic show with birds, music and snowing inside the Mustang classroom.

February is already here and it’s time for Valentines parties. cards and food. Each class will be having a very “Lovely” party with cards and a special lunch on Tues. Feb 14th. We are sure there will be sweet treats to share.
There is a new learning center in the Mustang class. Miss Dawn has made a post office in the upstairs loft. There is a computer and desk for taking care of the mail. We have a mail carrier to deliver the mail and a pocket mail wall. 4 students at a time may work in the post office. Thanks to the teachers and parents for donating “junk” mail for us to use and recycle.
Miss Dawn’s class is practicing KINDNESS this month. We have a Kindness House and 100 Hearts to show all the “Random Acts of Kindness.” Each time we experience kindness we write it down on a colorful heart and put up on the Kindness House. There are “Dress up clothes ” in the KINDNESS PLAY HOUSE and lots of ways to show kindness and respect to everyone. We hope the world will be a better place for everyone because of our kindness.
The last week of the month we have more wonderful guests visiting us from the Smile Shop dental office. They will be helping us learn about taking good care of our teeth and mouth. Happy Valentines Day 2017. May you spend the day with people you love.
Fall 2016 Food Blog
It’s that time of year when the chill in the air makes you want to cozy up inside and cook something special. We are so lucky to have organic fruit trees at Discoveries Preschool. We have an apple tree full of delicious apples and 4 pear trees to pick from.
The Mustang class made apple chips first. We used a special tool that cuts the apples into rings while it peeled the skin off the apples. Everyone got a turn to pick their apple and wash it. Then Miss Dawn put the apple on the holder and we got to crank the handle to cut and peel the apple. Then we put the apple slices on the racks for the dehydrator. We sprinkled cinnamon and sugar onto some of the slices and turned on the dehydrator. Some slices were plain without spices. It took all day for the apples to dry out to become apple chips. The next day we ate the chips for morning snack. Most people liked the cinnamon and sugar chips the best.
The next cooking lesson we made apple and pear sauce.
We used the apple tool to cut apples and then we cut the pears into pieces. We put the fruit into a big Crockpot and sprinkled in cinnamon and sugar. We cooked the fruit all day and had the apple and pear sauce for snack. Most children had never had pear sauce and didn’t think they would like it. It is good to try new things. We did discover we did like the pears in with the apples. There were so many pears left on the trees that we got to pick some with our parents and take them home to share with our families. Fall is a tasty time of the year.
